Baby Safe Plumbing Tips

New parent or not, everyone can use some help keeping their baby safe from harm day in and day out. Since September is Baby Safety Month, we're giving you some pointers where your home's plumbing is concerned.

There are a number of steps you can take, regarding your water heater, toilet and more, that will help keep your baby out of harm's way. Find some tips below:

  • Never set your water heater higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit to reduce the risk of scalding
  • Keep a water spout guard on your bathtub faucet to avoid burning
  • Never leave standing water in a bathtub to prevent drowning
  • Hair dryers and electrical appliances should be stored away from wet areas at all times
  • Keep toilet bowls closed or even install lid locks

On the twist side, your plumbing isn't as tough as it may seem. To keep your plumbing safe from your baby, always dispose of baby wipes properly - never flushing them down the toilet or drains!

  4. Wow, thank you so much for these tips. I think that most of them are common sense, but I had better start remembering to put the toilet seat down. Our 1 year old is starting to take his first steps, but it will be a while before he is completely mobile. I guess I have a few months to get in the habit. These were some really great plumbing tips by the way. http://www.dkeganplumbing.com.au

  7. After giving birth to my firstborn, I was worried about making my plumbing safe for her. It's great that I can put a water spout guard on my bathtub faucet. Now that my daughter has grown a little bit, she's started exploring the house more and turning on more things like faucets. I don't want her to accidentally burn herself on hot water, so I'll be sure to put a guard on them to protect her.
