5 Reminders that Water is our World

Whether you let the sink run while brushing your teeth, take a long hot bath instead of a 5-minute shower, or let a small toilet leak go unfixed, you might think to yourself "No big deal."

The truth, however, is that these small situations add up to major water loss and it's a resource that our world truly relies on. Below are 5 eye opening facts that remind us just how valuable water really is.

  1. Approximately 400 billion gallons of water are used in the US each day
  2. The average American home uses over 100,000 gallons each year
  3. You can save up to four gallons of water each morning by turning off the tap when brushing your teeth
  4. A bath uses more than double the amount of water required for a shower
  5. About 750 million people lack access to a safe and clean source of drinking water

Will you think twice next time you run the faucet longer than you should? Share your thoughts with us on our Facebook page.

Every Mom's Favorite Kitchen Cleaning Tricks

It's no secret that every child's favorite after school activity is snack time! That's why every mom loves learning clever tips to keep her kitchen clean.

At New York Plumbing and Sewer, we're happy to give you the support you need. Whether it's for routine plumbing maintenance or every day home improvement tips, you can count on us.

5 Kitchen Cleaning Tips

  1. For those juice boxes that spill all over, use hydrogen peroxide in water. With a few drops of ammonia this concoction is the answer for stone counter top stains.
  2. Half a cup of baking soda and two gallons of water is all you need for a sparkling clean tile floor. These are ingredients you can grab on the way to work in the morning, and their cheap!
  3. Nine parts warm water and one part white vinegar is your solution for shinier wood floors. Getting your kids to leave their shoes at the front door may be hard, but cleaning up after them doesn't have to be.
  4. Have a little artist in your house? Crayons on wall paint can be washed away with mild dish-washing soap mixed with water.
  5. Squirt a little ketchup on your kid's plate of chicken nuggets and then add a little to your pots and pans. Rinsing copper and brass fixtures with ketchup and warm water removes tarnish.
